SAASSO manages the PIE Grants on behalf of the Minister for Education. The program has demonstrated over the years that support makes a significant contribution in assisting parents/caregivers at the local level to do great work in their preschool and school communities.

For 2009, the Minister for Education and Children’s Services has approved $60,000 for this program. The funding is made available for parents/caregivers to develop new initiatives in their schools and preschools to encourage involvement and participation.

Emphasis will be placed on programs that encourage greater participation of parents/caregivers previously not well represented in school and preschool decision making forums. Such groups may include parents/caregivers of Aboriginal students, transient students, students from low socio-economic backgrounds, students from
multicultural backgrounds and students with disabilities.
