Premier's Be Active Challenge Advisory Committee

Representative: Kym O'Brien

Premier's Be Active Challenge Advisory Committee

This program promotes healthy activity programs in schools, to develop active mindsets in South Australia's children.

The committee provides community input into the various strategies of the 'Be Active Challenge'.

Along with SAASSO, membership of the committee includes representatives from:

•Department of Education and Childrens Services (DECS)
•SA Olympic Council
•Office for Recreation & Sport (ORS)
•Active Children Physical Education Resource (ACHPER)
•South Australian Association of School Parent Clubs (SAASPC)
•The University of South Australia (UniSA)
•Flinders University
•Kilparin Teaching and Assessment School

In 2008, a number if initiatives of the committee proved successful. The redesigned website is more user friendly, schools now receive communication via E-newletters and emails and paper based recording has made it much easier for participants to record activity.

For 2009, 34,500 students from 259 schools have indicated an intention to participate—a far cry from the 7,457 students who participated in 2007. The number of ambassadors has been increased to meet demand from schools and there is the intention to also follow up schools in regional areas who are currently not being covered by a Cluster Coordinator.
