Australian Sustainable Schools Initiative

SAASSO's representation on the AuSSI-SA Steering Committee ensured that Governing Councils played a major role in this initiative. The Steering Committee originally met at least once a quarter, but has not been functioning since 2006.

AuSSI now functions with an interagency Management Group and a Reference Group. The Reference Group meets four times per year and involves discussions regarding all of the critical directions that AuSSI is taking. The group is not currently active, but will invite representation from SAASSO when it reforms.

The Management Group is an interagency group that is made up of the Department of Environment and Heritage, the Natural Resource Management Boards and DECS. These are the three organisations responsible for the AuSSI program which is partially funded by the Australian Government through the Department of the Environment, Heritage, Water and the Arts.

The Reference Group advises the Management Group on the implementation of AuSSI to schools, preschools and the community.
