On September 30, SAASSO received a letter from the Minister regarding our submission calling for an inquiry into the Teachers Registration Board.
This letter was in response to our communication to the Minister on June 1, informing her of SAASSO's request for an urgent review of the operations of the Board and the appropriateness of the Act which unerpins its operations.

By invite from the Hon. John Darley, members of SAASSO Board were in the gallery of the Legislative Council when the member introduced a motion for the Statutory Authority Review Committee conduct an inquiry into the Teachers Registration Board.
In standard practice, the motion was immediately adjourned to a later date.


The Advertiser runs a story on SAASSO’s call for an inquiry into the Teachers Registration Board. In the article. The article discusses SAASSO concerns regarding the lack of broad community representation on the Board and conspicuous skill sets absent. The article suggests more parents, school principals, SAASSO representatives and child welfare experts as possible members of a more appropriate Board.
The Shadow Education Minister, David Pisoni pledges his support for an inquiry.

'School Post's' cover story synopsised the Parliamentary Submission and coveyed the key concerns helf by parents on SAASSO's Board and State Council.


SAASSO meets with the Hon. John Darley to present submission and request that he re-introduce a motion to the LC requesting an inquiry into the TRB.
In 2007, the Hon. Nick Xenophon introduced a motion calling for an inquiry. This motion has since lapsed.

As a Statutory Authority, the Teachers Registration and Standards Act would be subject to review by the Statutory Authorities Review Committee - a Standing Committee of the Legislative Council.

Following a concerning article in The Advertiser, in December 2007, members of SAASSO's State Council conducted an in-depth analysis of the Teachers Registration and Standards Act and all available published materials from the Board.
Concerned at numerous issues with the Act, SAASSO made contact with the Hon. John Darley to ascertain whether he was consdering progressing the motion previously introduced by the Hon. Nicj Xenophon.
