Supporting schools, governing councils and state education through training, advice and advocacy
Since 2007, the Rann Government has been attempting to change our state's Education and Children's Services Acts.
So far, the government has changed the SACE Board and increased the school leaving age.
In 2008 Education Minister, Jane Lomax-Smith, announced that she was planning to make changes to the role of Governing Councils and the level of parent involvement in the education of their children.
After a wait of several months, Discussion Paper 3 was suddenly released in term 4 of 2008.
SAASSO was immediately concerned that a consultation period set in December would limit the amount of genuine feedback parents would provide.
Upon reading the Discussion Paper, our fears only increased.
After receiving numerous complaints from parents SAASSO developed a submission for the Education Minister - this was not a submission on the Discussion Paper itself, but a plea to the Minister to conduct a genuine review of Local Governance before forcing through changes based on the narrow viewpoint of few dozen employees.
